Recent Additions to the Museum Collection
The Historical Society continues to benefit from the generosity of those in the community who are interested in preserving and displaying our historic treasures. Recently, the Lachicotte Family Partnership presented the Museum, on a loan basis, an alkaline pottery jug crafted and signed by "Dave the Slave" with an inscribed date of March 1852. Dave's works have been highly acclaimed throughout the antiques world and we are most proud to display this unique piece of history. In addition, the Lachicotte display includes a large woven basket with matching handcrafted table dating back over 100 years.
Dr. Mark McCoy of Georgetown also recently loaned the Museum several significant historical artifacts which we now proudly display in the Military Room. A Palmetto Armory Sword and sheath, complete with its written history; Shannon Pritchard of Old South Military Antiques, LLC of Studley, Virginia states that "This is the second finest example of this makers sword I have ever examined." Dr. McCoy's display also includes a model 1860 Colt pistol, a Confederate Fighting Knife complete with the original sheath. In addition to these artifacts, Dr. McCoy has also loaned the Museum numbered fruiterer and servant slave tags.
Please don't miss an opportunity to visit the Museum and view these remarkable displays!
